Quiz #1 will be closed book, closed note, and closed computer. It will consist
of
several
short-answer
and/or
short
essay
questions.
It
will be administered at the beginning of class and should take less than 30 minutes. (We will begin covering new material afterwards.)
For the most part, the quiz will require understanding of, and reasoning based
on, important concepts beyond memorization of factual details. It will
be
worth
about 5–7% of
your overall course grade (depending on how many quizzes we have this semester).
Preparation Strategy
This quiz will cover material in the following order of emphasis:
Material covered in class
Lab activities and summaries of class discussion about them:
Concept Map I-A: Intensity of Solar Radiation Absorbed at Earth's Surface
Concept Map I-B: Daily (24-hour) Average Solar Radiation Intensity (Insolation) on a Horizontal Surface at the Top of the Atmosphere
Handouts (those that address
something
covered
in
class,
especially
if
they
cover
material
also covered
in
reading assignments or on which we spent a significant
amount of time in class).
Reading #1 (This reading was intended to provide a broad overview of some aspects of the course; at this point you won't be held responsible for this.)
Reading #2 (In this reading assignment, only material corresponding to topics
covered in class so far is eligible
for
coverage on the
quiz; that would include material through the section on temperature scales.)
Homework Problems
Problem #1 (if it is returned graded by the beginning of class on the day of Quiz #1)
